WILD BROWN TROUT
Tasmania is the home of some of the purest strain of wild brown trout left in the world and these trout are the fish we target on all of our tours. Trout eggs, originally transported to Tasmania from Britain on a sailing ship in 1864 after several failed attempts, were hatched at the Salmon Ponds near New Norfolk. These trout were the first to be introduced to the southern hemisphere and some were sent to NZ around the turn of the century to establish their trout fishery. We also gave them some possums but it was the trout that they liked the best.
